Competing in groups of eight, sixty-four contestants will be systematically eliminated to eight remaining finalists over the course of 8 days.
Starting on Saturday, April 25th, 2009 eight acts will be showcased daily with two shows on Saturday April 25th , Friday May 1st and Saturday May 2nd at 7:30pm and 10:30pm. Finals will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009, when the $25 000 grand prize will be awarded to the Yuk Yuk’s Great Canadian Laugh-Off Champion.
Comics can apply on-line in the following categories:
Randomly by computer we will choose:
6 Canadian Amateurs
6 Canadian Elite
6 International Elite
6 International Amateurs
Canadian winners of the Yuk Yuk's Local Laugh Offs will be determined through competitions at the Yuk Yuk's Clubs across Canada prior to the Toronto finals. Mini Laugh Offs will be hosted by each of the fourteen Canadian Yuk Yuk's clubs to determine their delegates to send to the finals.
This will leave 26 spots for the "All Remaining Comics" division.
All Comics will do 8 minutes for the playoffs. Winners from the payoffs will then compete for a second time in the semi finals on Saturday May 2nd at 7:30pm and 10:30pm with four winners from each show selected, totaling 8 winners. The 8 winners from the semi finals will then have 10 minutes each for the finals. Material must be original, accurately timed, performed in English and can be repeated.
This contest is open to anyone except residents of Quebec, regardless of their sense of humour and how they spell it.
